Cambodia's Angkor Wat a close second to Ta Prohm Temple aka "Tomb Raider Temple"

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

It depends on your purpose of visiting but some would say, including myself that Ta Prohm is the best and more picturesque than the main attaction, Angkor Wat (Keep in mind Angkor Wat is still amazing). These two temples are only 15 minutes away from each other.

I have been to Angkor Wat and the Angkor Archaeological Park in Cambodia four times now and I am always pleasantly surprised by the fast amount of archaeological sites and unlimited pathways through the forest as you encounter yet another temple, that you didn't see the previous time.

There's no doubt that everyone has a different opinion, and has particular interest in looking at world wonders but if you want to truly feel like you were once Indiana Jones searching for an ancient city hidden in the jungle or secret passageways of a historical site, Ta Prohm Temple is what you're looking for as an explorer.

This temple, known to most of the movie world as "The Tomb Raider" Temple from Angela Jolie's film, will see a temple a way it was when it was rediscovered late 19th century by French explorers and archaeologists who were working on the restoration of the Angkor Archaeological Park

a vast cropping of giant fig trees and other species of large trees. Put on a backpack and hiking shoes and go explore into corridors like this below. Get lost on the multiple paths (in a good way) and if you are photographer or videographer, then you'll be in heaven.

Ta Prohm is a temple located in the Angkor Archaeological Park in Cambodia, and it is known for its jungle setting and the way in which the temple's ruins have been left in a partially-overgrown state. This has created a unique and atmospheric setting that many visitors find captivating. The temple was built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, and was originally dedicated to the mother of King Jayavarman VII.

Angkor Wat, on the other hand, is a massive temple complex located in the same park. It was built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II, and it is one of the largest religious monuments in the world. Angkor Wat is renowned for its stunning architecture, intricate carvings, and impressive scale. It was originally built as a Hindu temple, but was later converted to a Buddhist temple.

Both Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat are unique and impressive examples of ancient Khmer architecture and art, and each has its own special qualities that make it worth visiting. Visitors to the Angkor Archaeological Park often choose to visit both temples to experience the different aspects of Khmer history and culture that they represent.

There are a lot of ways to book but in Asia, Agoda seems to be king for cheaper prices especially hotels. I found a $14 hotel with all the amenities (pool, fitness, balcony, rest area, pool table, ping pong) in Hua Hin Thailand about 5 minutes from the beach by motorbike (LINK IN THE UNDERLINED PASSAGE)
